How to Sign up
The World Log is about sharing ideas, views and information on international development and support. It’s where you can learn about what is happening in the world and where you can take part in discussions.
Registering for The World Log is easy. You can link your blog to The World Log through a simple RSS feed. And if you don’t have a blog, you can start one within minutes. You can also place a widget (a web window) on your blog page or website that shows recent entries on The World Log related to topics that you are concerned about. (see the widget link below)
To begin, click on the tab marked ‘Login/Register’ above the map, and then ‘Register’ at the bottom of the pop-up window.
Now, all you have to do is fill in the fields. First decide if you are registering as a person or for an organization. Then choose a username and password (at least six characters long) and provide an email address (it needs to be a proper email address since you will need to activate your account after registering).
The other information fields tag your entries for easy searchability but they can be deactivated by unmarking the ‘Public’ check box. The deselected information will not show up in your public profile either.
The ‘Interest’ field is important. It defines your interests, work area, or country into tags or ‘Stickers’, and makes your entries easy to search for. These are the default tags that will show up for each or your entries, but you are not limited to these tags. You can add or delete tags for each entry under the ‘Mark Up’ tab. (see the About ‘Mark Up’ link below)
In ‘My Story’ you can write a brief description of who you are, what you do, and what your interests are. This will appear on you blog page. You can also upload a picture of yourself under ‘My Picture’, by clicking the ‘Upload Photo’ button and selecting the appropriate photo from your computer. Please remember that photos need be less than 10 MB in size and formatted as JPG, GIF or PNG.
Finally you can link your blog, photos or videos in the appropriate fields by copying and pasting your RSS feed link. To do this go to your blog, photo page or video page and right click (ctrl-click for Mac) on the RSS icon
and select ‘Copy Link’, then just paste this into the appropriate field.
If you don’t have a blog and would like to start one on The World Log, click on the ‘Provide me with a blog’ check box.
Finally, read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service and mark the ‘I agree to….’ check box, and that’s it. You’re now registered.
To activate you account, check your email and click on the link in the confirmation email that was sent to you.
If you had a pre-existing blog, your entries are now visible on The World Log. You can go to the ‘Mark Up’ tab and edit the stickers that tag each entry.
If you signed up for a new blog page, you can start blogging by clicking on the ‘My Blog’ tab. (see the About ‘My Blog’ link below)
That’s how easy it is to register. But The World Log allows you to fine-tune your entries and profile.
