User terms and conditions for theworldlog.org
GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE WORLD LOG
theworldlog.org is run by Sida – the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency – an authority under the jurisdiction of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. When you register as a member, you accept the terms and conditions set out below, which form a contract between you and Sida.
GENERAL
theworldlog.org is a web service that helps users find, distribute and discuss content about development issues. The service is part of Sida’s brief to increase knowledge about development co-operation and development in developing countries.
Using theworldlog.org should be a rewarding experience and individual users should treat each other with mutual respect. If these general terms and conditions are breached, the user may be issued with a warning, or his/her account may be closed without notice.
USER INFORMATION
Sida is responsible for personal data for theworldlog.org. Contact details for theworldlog.org can be found at the bottom of the general terms and conditions. Sida has access to all user information registered at theworldlog.org.
theworldlog.org protects your personal integrity. We always prioritize the protection of all information you the user submit to us, and we follow prevailing laws and regulations, such as the Swedish Personal Data Act, to protect your integrity. Only a limited number of people with special authorization have access to the information.
The user information is necessary for you as a member to be able to use theworldlog.org and its functions on a recurring basis.
Registered information may be used for analysis, surveys, development and information distributed by theworldlog.org and Sida.
By registering as a member, you accept that your information may be used for this purpose.
On registering, the following applies:
• You the user must read and accept these general terms and conditions.
• You should enter your real name. You then decide if you want to show your real name publicly.
• Your user name will be visible to other visitors to theworldlog.org, so it must not be offensive.
• You must give a valid e-mail address which you then decide if you want to show to other users.
• If we suspect that you have provided inaccurate information your account may be deleted. The same applies if you have more than one account.
• You can close your account at any time by notifying us at contact@theworldlog.org
COOKIES
theworldlog.org uses cookies to keep information about individual users’ activities on the site. The information is used for the following, for instance:
• Verifying login.
• Automatically filling in various form fields for the user on return visits to theworldlog.org.
• Checking whether the user has answered questions of a one-off nature.
A cookie is a small text file which is stored on the user’s computer and is then retrieved by the server the next time the user visits the site.
DISPLAY RIGHTS FOR THEWORLDLOG.ORG
Once you have added a thread (blog, video feed, photostream or equivalent) to your account, this will be displayed at theworldlog.org. The content may also be shown on other Internet sites through a widget, i.e. a microsite hosted by a third party which shows a subset of theworldlog.org. By registering your account, you accept that your added threads may be displayed in this way.
GENERAL RULES
Once you have registered at theworldlog.org, the following applies:
• You must retain your real name which you gave during registration. You can update your name if, for example, you spelt it incorrectly during registration or if you have changed your name.
• You must follow Swedish legislation when you use theworldlog.org. Pornography, the promotion of drugs and publication of copyright-protected material is forbidden on the entire site. You may not use theworldlog.org for illegal activities or to distribute materials which are illegal or may be perceived as offensive, such as incitement to racial hatred, harassment, bullying, chain letters or infringement of copyright-protected material. If any of these rules are breached your user name may be deleted and you may be reported to the police. Links to sites which contain illegal content are considered illegal. Users who make such a link are directly responsible for this offence.
• You have no right to use theworldlog.org for your own commercial purposes, such as selling or advertising a product. If this occurs, theworldlog.org may demand damages.
• You may not use theworldlog.org as a distribution channel or contact base for commercial messages, junk mail, spam or chain letters.
• You may not use, copy or forward user information.
• You may not upload files infected by viruses, pornographic or copyright-protected files (e.g. MP3 files with known artists), or links to pornographic, racist or other obviously unsuitable sites.
• Abuse of theworldlog.org’s services/functions, such as guestbook spam, are absolutely forbidden.
• Your user name and password are your key to theworldlog.org and you are responsible for ensuring your password is not accessible to others.
SWEDISH LEGISLATION
Swedish legislation applies when you visit and use theworldlog.org. Some laws may be considered more relevant for the Internet. Some of these include:

• Narkotikastrafflagen 1968:64 narkotikabrott (Narcotics Drug Law)
If theworldlog.org becomes aware of gross unlawful contributions to theworldlog.org, the matter may be reported to the operator (e.g. Telia), which may issue a warning and even suspend your Internet subscription.
theworldlog.org or another party may also decide to report the matter to the police, who may in turn start legal proceedings. Crimes against any of these laws may lead to stiff penalties. Fines or a prison sentence are the normal punishments depending on the nature of the crime.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE UNDER 15
Recommendations if you are under 15:
• Never arrange a meeting with anyone you do not know. You can never rely on what someone claims about him/herself.
• You should speak to your parents before meeting in person anyone you meet online. Ideally bring a friend to the first meeting.
• You should tell your parents that you have registered at theworldlog.org.
RULES ON IMAGES
All photos added to or linked to from theworldlog.org must fulfil the following criteria:
• They must not be perceived as offensive or insulting.
• You must have copyright/the right to use the image in order to upload/use it on theworldlog.org.
• We are fully entitled to remove any image we do not like without stating a reason.
THE RIGHTS YOU GIVE US
theworldlog.org is entitled in connection with marketing of the site to copy, alter, display and distribute material published by you publicly at theworldlog.org, without any obligation to pay financial compensation.
Messages, information and image material, for example, which you post on theworldlog.org is public to other users.
To ensure that there is no harassment, pornography, bullying or other illegal or undesirable activity, theworldlog.org will have full access to your account in order to investigate any complaints or reports.
theworldlog.org is entitled to send information to users via theworldlog.org’s functions.
SUSPENSION
Your account may be suspended if:
• You abuse the site in a way that spoils it for other users or theworldlog.org.
• You write contributions in forums/guestbooks/your presentation that are insulting, offensive to others or racist in character.
• You harass other people by e-mail, guestbook entries, SMS or some other way.
Before your account is suspended, you will receive a warning and have two logins to remedy your abuse (e.g. to correct a wrong name).
POLICE REPORT
We log all activity which takes place on the site so that in the event of a serious violation of the rules or personal attack, the matter can be reported to the police and we can provide the necessary information to trace the person in question. In the event of a police investigation, theworldlog.org will assist the police with all available information.
CONFIDENTIALITY
None of the information you have submitted will be forwarded to a third party.
theworldlog.org is entitled to carry out surveys among the users of theworldlog.org. All personal details are handled anonymously in such surveys.
PUBLIC INFORMATION
The entries written on forums, ‘graffiti boards’ and in other user guestbooks can be read by other users.
Your user name will be visible to the person whose presentation you visit.
Your user name will be visible to other visitors to theworldlog.org.
OUR SECURITY POLICY
theworldlog.org protects users’ personal integrity. We follow the Swedish Personal Data Act (PUL) and always prioritize the protection of all information. We do not sell any information that can be linked to an individual person, such as e-mail addresses.
theworldlog.org may issue a warning, delete material or delete users for actions in violation of the internal online ethical code.
theworldlog.org regularly examines the site with the aim of localizing and taking action with regard to non-desirable activities and materials. This is based on a systematic approach and procedures which are available to the security manager.
CHANGES TO THESE GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
theworldlog.org reserves the right to change the general terms and conditions of theworldlog.org if necessary to comply with legal and official decisions. We encourage users to check the general terms and conditions to see if any changes have been made. If changes are made of such a nature that use of theworldlog.org changes in a significant way, the users will be informed. By continuing to use theworldlog.org, the user is assumed to have accepted the changed terms and conditions. If a user wishes to cancel membership, he/she can deregister from theworldlog.org.
OTHER INFORMATION
Any material you download from theworldlog.org is at your own risk. The aim is for all material to be free from viruses, Trojan horses and similar, but this cannot be guaranteed. We are not responsible for encroachments on your account or any other faults that may occur with your account.
